Meet Christopher Bosman, Early Years Specialist and Teacher

Our ‘Meet the Team’ series aims to highlight the exceptional staff and volunteers who work hard to make Camphill School Aberdeen the wonderful place that it is. Next up in our ‘Meet the Team’ series is Christopher Bosman, an Early Years Waldorf Specialist Teacher.

What is your role at Camphill School Aberdeen and what does it consist of?

I work as a Teacher in Amber Kindergarten with a particular focus on Steiner Waldorf early years learning while following the early years curriculum for excellence. As an early years Waldorf teacher, my role is to create a warm, nurturing environment that supports the child’s natural development. Through rhythm, storytelling, creative play, and hands-on activities, I aim to foster a sense of wonder, imagination, and social harmony. I guide learning through experience, movement, and imitation, allowing children to develop at their own pace while building a strong foundation for future growth. My work extends beyond academics to support the children’s emotional wellbeing, social skills, and a deep connection to nature and the world around them.

How long have you worked at Camphill School Aberdeen?

I’ve been in this role for five and a half years but have worked as a Steiner Waldorf education specialist teacher for over 25 years, working with and in various schools

across the country.

How did you first hear of the role and Camphill School Aberdeen?

I first heard about the Kindergarten Teacher role here and the Camphill movement through my previous work in Waldorf Schools.

What’s your favourite part of your role and do you have any highlights of your time at Camphill School Aberdeen?

My favourite part of my role is witnessing the children's natural wonder and curiosity as they explore the world around them. I love creating a warm, rhythmic environment where they feel safe to grow, play, and discover at their own pace. Seeing their joy in simple moments, whether it's through storytelling, creative play, or time in nature fills me with a deep sense of purpose and gratitude.

I also look forward to celebrating the many cultural festivals we honour throughout the year. It’s always great when the community comes together and there are also activities for the children to get involved with ahead of these celebrations such as creating crafts. I guess one of the many highlights was in 2023 when after an inspection, The Care Inspectorate gave Amber Kindergarten the best possible grading in all areas apart from one:

Care, play and learning: Excellent– 6/6

Setting: Excellent– 6/6

Leadership: Very Good – 5/6

Staff team: Excellent– 6/6

They also stated that we are “sector leading” and the report found that children were

“incredibly well supported” by staff who were “consistently attuned” to the children’s needs.

What makes Camphill School Aberdeen’s approach to early learning education unique?

Our approach to early learning is unique because it integrates Waldorf education with a therapeutic, community-based environment. It emphasises holistic child development, nurturing emotional, social, and cognitive growth through rhythm, nature-based learning, and creative play. We provide individualised support, fostering inclusivity and a deep sense of belonging for each child. Our strong connection to nature, hands-on experiences and collaborative community living create a rich, supportive foundation for lifelong learning. What’s also unique is Amber Kindergarten’s surroundings, having access to so much green space and wildlife allows the children to spend as much time as possible outdoors, benefitting their wellbeing.

When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time?

When I’m not working, I enjoy spiritual and reflective study, hiking in the great outdoors here in Scotland and meeting up with friends. I especially like getting to meet other members of the Camphill School Aberdeen community, whether students, coworkers or staff as there is such a range of cultures here, and I enjoy learning about people’s home countries and traditions and feel extremely privileged to be surrounded by such incredible people.
